According to the “Published Reporter,” the average person sleeps eight hours a day, which translates to nearly 230,000 hours, or a third of their life in bed.
Recently, Zinus, who manufactures mattresses that contain fiberglass as a fire retardant, had a class-action lawsuit filed against them. Zinus was founded in 2004 and primarily makes mattresses. However, the fiberglass in their mattresses has led to the toxic exposure of asbestos to consumers.
The amount of fiberglass in these mattresses is estimated to be around 62%. Over 15 million consumers have purchased these mattresses and Zinus failed to warn of the dangers of the exposure to this fiberglass toxin. This failure to warn indicates negligence on behalf of Zinus, who did not warn their users that the product was defective — I.e., A toxic exposure to the fiberglass. Thus, they fraudulently concealed the issue even after it was revealed.
One of the main issues regarding the design of the mattress is that it is designed with a zipper so that consumers may unzip the outside of the mattress, wash it in the washer and dryer, and then put it back over the top of the mattress. The problem is that this exposes the small fiberglass shards to not only the washer, dryer, and other clothing material, but also to the exposed mattress itself while it is being washed. Multiple retailers are also liable for selling the defective mattresses including Target, Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, and eBay.
