This is Michael Brady Lynch, lead trial attorney for The Michael Brady Lynch Firm.
I wish this was a Mischief Night prank because I love black licorice. But it appears that folks really should take care when consuming black licorice.
The FDA warned today in advance of Halloween that consumption of large quantities of black licorice can pose significant heart risks as well as pose harmful interactions for those on diuretics, digoxin, and laxatives.
In addition to heart problems, large quantities of black licorice can lead to salt and water retention and heart failure.
If you have consumed any quantity of black licorice and experience any sign of heart abnormality and/or muscle weakness, the FDA advises immediate medical attention.
With that warning, have a great Halloween weekend everyone.
